Sally Minns

Fine Art Fellow – Heatherleys School of Fine Art 2021-22

Sally is a London based artist who studied painting at The Heatherley School of Fine Art, receiving a commendation for her research-based practice during the Portrait Diploma. She was awarded a Scholarship by The Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers to complete the Post-Diploma in Figurative Painting.

Sally's practice is rooted in research and observational drawing, from which she develops imagined narratives that raise debate around societal issues. Inspiration is found from multiple sources including current affairs, art history, literature, film and music.

“For me the act of painting is the crossroads where my drawing, inspiration, internal dialogue and prevalent societal issues meet. It is a thinking space. A fully immersive experience of process until the final representation becomes apparent. Through the application of paint and choice of imagery, my work explores themes of power and control, debating how global patriarchal structures propagate oppression, misogyny and abuse.”
